The Quest for the perfect birth announcement card

by Y Mountassir

As the anticipation for our daughter Rosalie’s arrival grew, we embarked on a quest to find the perfect card to announce her presence to the world. Sending a card is not a tradition in Germany, my girlfriend’s homeland, therefore this was the first baby related decision I was the majority stakeholder, hooray me.

The panda birth card: A nostalgic hurdle

In honour of my own birth card, I was drawn to the idea of featuring a panda on my daughters announcement card. However, finding a ready-made panda birth card that resonated with us proved to be a challenging task.

Turning to dall-e AI for a custom card design

Amidst a sea of important life decisions, such as:

– which stroller to buy (we bought the Easywalker Harvey2 second hand and even though its slightly on the heavier side especially when you live in a flat with no elevator, we are really happy with it),

– which co-sleeper to buy (we bought the Maxi-Cosi one, again second hand and have recently sold it on again)

– which diapers to choose (for us its the Pampers Harmony, and they work great for us),

I discovered Dall-e AI, an innovative text-to-image tool. Upon discovery I didn’t think much of it but later it seemed like the perfect solution to create a custom card design that carried on our cherished panda tradition.

The learning curve: Mastering Dall-e AI and Midjourney AI

As first-time users, we initially found navigating through Dall-e and Midjourney AI quite challenging. But, with time and practice, we began to understand the intricacies of these platforms and how to prompt them effectively.

Our initial struggles helped us clarify our vision and understand the potential of Dall-e AI and Midjourney AI. Despite the initial hiccups, we found that Dall-e resonated more with our needs.

To jumpstart your own creative process here are two links that can help with finding the right prompts for both platforms, something that would have greatly helped us when we were looking for the right words to describe the look we wanted.

  1. Midjourney: https://github.com/willwulfken/MidJourney-Styles-and-Keywords-Reference
  2. Dall-E 2: https://pitch.com/v/DALL-E-prompt-book-v1-tmd33y/

Once we figured out how to use the Dall-e we mustered all our energy (of which we still had plenty as Rosie wasn’t born yet), we created the image that would be used on the card.

After we created that image, we downloaded it and then used Vistaprint (could have been any card creation supplier) and used the image to design our own card which is the card you see in the hero image (marketing slang for the main image of this article)

Celebrating success and inspiring creativity with custom card designs

The joy and satisfaction we derived from designing our own panda birth card were unparalleled. Based on our positive experience, we strongly recommend AI tools like Dall-e and Midjourney for creating personalised cards. Whether it’s a birth card, a Mother’s Day card, or a get-well-soon card, these tools can help you convey your feelings in a unique and personalized way.

If you thought this was a great idea, make sure to share your card designs in the comments below as we would love to see your creativity as well.
